In the name of our crucified Lord Jesus Christ, amen. Year of the Lord 1246, 15 Kalends of April. We, brothers of the Orders of Preachers Bernard de Caux and Jean de Saint-Pierre, inquisitors of heretical depravity appointed by apostolic authority in the city and diocese of Toulouse:

As it has been established before us through the judicial confessions of from ToulouseAustorga, wife of the late Peire de Rosengue; from VerfeilRaimund Gausbert and Arnaud Guerrer of Toulouse; Auger de Verfeil, knight; Bernard Donat, Bernard de Saint-Jean and Raimund Calvet of Verfeil; from Saint-Agnan; from OdarsJacob de Odar; Bernardi Daide of Saint-Agnan; and Arnaud Dorbert of Lanta; that they knowingly saw heretics many times, adored them, and believed in their errors, and, after abjuring heresy, from Lanta saw heretics and adored them. Now, following wiser council, they wish to return to the unity of the Church as they claim, first having abjured heretical depravity; we therefore release them - following the ways of the Church - of the chains of excommunication by which they were bound due to the aforesaid crimes, so long as they have returned to ecclesiastical unity in good faith and having fulfilled the commands enjoined upon them. As they rashly transgressed God and the Holy Church in the aforementioned ways, they appear before us today as summoned, legally cited, to receive their penance regarding the crime of heresy: definitively assigned, after discussion with many prelates and the council of many other good men to find an appropriate punishment, we order and desire that they be put in prison indefinitely, and we enjoin them with this penance bound by their respective oaths. If, indeed, they refuse to accomplish the aforesaid penance, we again bind them by the chains of excommunication.

And as well it has been established before usfrom Toulouse through the judicial confessions of Austorga, wife of the late lord Vaseia de Baziège; Raimunda Barrau and Aycelina, sisters, Guilhem Mercader of Toulouse; Hugo de Canel and Raimund de Canel of Lanta; from Lanta that they saw heretics many times, believed and adored them, and after abjuring heresy knowingly saw and hid heretics;

And as well it has been established before us throughfrom Toulouse the judicial confessions of B. Faure, minter, Poitiers senior, and Raimund de Suelh of Toulouse; Bernard de Landa, Peire Escudeira and Raimund de Villeneuve of Toulouse; from Saint-JuliaRaimund Saur, Pons de Fa, Pons Pastre, Peire de Cabanilh, Guilhem de Cabanilh, and Bernard Johan of Saint-Julian; Guilhem Esteve of Gauré; from Gauré that they saw heretics many times and adored them, and they hid the truth of the foregoing heresy contrary to their own testimony. After discussion with many prelates and with the council of other good men, we desire and order that they be put in prison to stay there forever, for as long as the Church sees expedient, as penance for the aforesaid crime.

And as well it has been established before us through the judicial confession of Ticborcs, wife of Pons de Gamevila of Toulouse, from Toulousethat she knowingly saw heretics many times, adored and received, fed, hid, employed, and, after making confessions and abjuring heresy before inquisitors, knowingly saw heretics in her own home in the last few years, dwelt with and hid them. After discussion with many prelates and with the council of other good men, we impose upon her by her own oath confinement to house arrest for 15 years, as penance for the aforesaid crime.

And as well it has been established before us through the judicial from Toulouseconfessions of Vidal de Sala et Fauresse, wife of Peire Marques, that they saw and adored heretics many times, and believed them to be good men;

And as well it has been established before us through the judicial confession of W. Arcmand of Toulouse that he has seen, believed and hid heretics these last few years;

And as well it has been established before us through the judicial confessions of Raimund de Puy, Bernard Durand, Bernard de Gleira of Odars, from Odarsthat they knowingly saw and adored heretics many times, and believed them, in the last few years. After discussion with many prelates and with the council of other good men, we impose upon them by their own oath, confinement to house arrest for 10 years, as penance for the aforesaid crime. We and other inquisitors retain the power to increase, decrease or otherwise change at another time the penance, as we or other inquisitors see expedient.

Enacted at Toulouse in the cloisters of Saint-Sernin in the presence of the venerable father Raimund, Bishop of Toulouse; Guilhem Aton, Archdeacon of Villelongue; Arnaud, prior of Saint-Sernin; Arnaud Pelhisson, magister; Vidal Auriol, prior of Saint-Etienne; Raimund Carriger, sacristan of Saint-Etienne; brother Johan de Cambalho, notary of the Bishop of Toulouse; Aton de Pamier, magister; Guilhem Raimund and Peire de Druda, canons; Pons de Avignon, canon; Forz, chaplain of Saint-Sernin; Raimund, chaplain of the Church at Sainte Marie la Daurade; magister Bernard, chaplain of Ladinhac; Nepos de Dournia, Bernard de Gaus, Peire Fresapa, and Peire Aribert, notaries for the inquisition; Bernard, prior of Lavaur; and Sylvester, chaplain of Verfeil.
