153Item. In the name of our crucified Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Year of the Lord 1246, 3rd Nones of June. We, brothers of the Order of Preachers Bernard de Caux and Johan de Saint-Pierre, inquisitors of heretical depravity appointed by apostolic authority in the city and diocese of Toulouse:

As it has been established before us through the from Cabannes from Labécède from Les Cassés from Saint-Paul from Montjoijudicial confessions of Peire Bruni of Cabannes, P. Passamar of Labécède, Peire Bofilh of Les Cassès, Peire Durand of Saint-Paulet, and Arnald Doaiss of Montjoi, in the diocese of Toulouse;

That the aforenamed Peire Bruni of Cabannes saw and adored heretics on many occasions and in many places, believed heretics to be goog men, and hid the truth in contravention of his own oath;

Item. As well the aforenamed P. Passamar of Labécède saw and adored heretics on many occasions and in many locations, listened to their preaching, ate many times with heretics, bread blessed by them many times, received [sacrament?] from heretics, attended heretication, esteemed the heretics and believed them to be good men, and denied the truth in contravention of his own oath;

Item. As well the aforenamed Peire Bofilh saw and adored heretics on many occasions, stayed with heretics, listened to their preaching, ate many times with them and bread blessed by them, believed the heretics and their errors, and denied the truth in contravention of his own oath;

Itm. As well the aforenamed Peire Durand saw and adored heretics on many occasions and in many places, listened to their preaching, believed heretics to be good men, made agreements to not reveal heresy, and relapsed into the heresy abjured;

Item. As well the aforenamed Arnald Doaiss saw and adored heretics on many occasions, listened to their preaching in may places, received them in his home, ate with heretics and bread blessed by them, gave them of his, beleived them to be good men, and denied the truth in contravention of his own oath;

They now, following wiser council, wish to return to the unity of the Church as they claim, first having abjured heretical depravity; we therefore release them - following the ways of the Church - of the chains of excommunication by which they were bound due to the aforesaid crimes, so long as they have returned to ecclesiastical unity in good faith and having fulfilled the commands enjoined upon them. As they rashly transgressed God and the Holy Church in the aforementioned ways, they appear before us today as compelled, legally cited, to receive their penance regarding the crime of heresy: definitively assigned, after discussion with many prelates and the council of many other good men to find an appropriate punishment, we order and desire that they be put in prison indefinitely, and we enjoin them with this penance bound by their respective oaths. If, indeed, they refuse to accomplish the aforesaid penance, we again bind them by the chains of excommunication.

Enacted at Toulouse in the cloisters of Saint-Sernin in the presence of Arnald, prior of Saint-Sernin; Peire de Drudas, Arnald Bego, Pons the chamberlain, canons of Saint-Sernin; Bernard, chaplain of Ladinhac; F. chaplain of Rupe; Raimund, chaplain of Delbade; Fortz, chaplain of Saint-Sernin; Raimund, chaplain of Sainte-Marie-la-Daurade; Bernard, prior of Lavaur; R., chaplain of Fanjeaux; Bertrand de Villanova, W. Hugo, and Raimund Ranier, tax collectors of TOulouse; and many other clerics, et cetera.
