He fled.Item. Year and day as above. The sworn witness Guilhem de Saint-Nazare said that he saw heretics preaching openly at Montréal, he saw there with them Arnald de Calhau, B. de Forran, W. de Saint-Codat, and many others up to 40 or more. The witness and everyone else adored the aforesaid heretics there, but he did not recall if he said "Bless us." This was about 40 years ago.

Item. He saw Bertrand Marti and his companion, heretics, in the house of the witness and he saw there with them Bernard Alzeu and Ysarn de Gibel, who brought the heretics there. Shortly thereupon Macip de Tolosa arrived and called for the witness, and at that moment Bernard Alzeu and Ysarn de Gibel hid the aforesaid heretics in the witness' basement. The same Macip ordered the witness to collect the Count's money from the town, and he left the heretics in his house. They preached there and many attended the aforesaid preaching at the village, but the witness himself did not attend nor adored nor saw adoring. This was about 17 years go.

Item. He said that Guilhem Alfaric, condemned for heresy, stayed in his home for three months, and one night he brought Guilhem de Fanjeaux and his companion, heretics, to the witness' house. He saw there with them the same Guilhem Alfari, W. de Azilha, Hugo de Romegos, and Ysarn de Gibel, who brought the aforesaid heretics there, and Arnald W, brother of the said Guilhem Alfaric. The witness and everyone else adored the aforesaid heretics there. This was about 3 years ago.

Item. He said that he saw two heretics whom he did not know in some field outside the village, and he saw there P. de Vinhalet, Peire Galhart, and Arnald Valh. The witness and everyone else adored the aforesaid heretics there. This was about 2 years ago. And then P. de Vinhalet lead the aforesaid heretics into the village and brought them to his house. In the same night P. de Vinhalet came to the witness' house and brought him to his house where he came upon the aforesaid heretics, and he saw there with them P. de Vinhalet and his wife. He ate grapes with the aforesaid heretics and adored them, bending at the knees three times saying, "Bless us good men, pray to God for us." This was the same period.

Item. He said that on one day when Guilhem Alfaric stayed in his house, B. Retorca, W. del Caire, et Odo [...], condemned for heresy, came over.

Item. He said that Esmengarde, wife of Pons de Turre of Laurac, gave the aforesaid Guilhem Alfaric a half-measure of wine.

Item. He said that he wanted to go to brother Ferrier, so the witness send word to Peire Galhart and P. de Vinhalet that he wanted to confess to brother Ferrier. He was told by his messenger himself that they had both acted and spoken with heretics. And the aforesaid P. Vinhalet instructed the witness not to speak to the inquisitors, and kissed the messenger and he asked the aforesaid messenger to ask the witness not to reveal anything of heresy to the inquisitors. And because of this the witness did not reveal it.

He believed the above-mentioned heretics to be good men, friends of God and true, and one could be saved by the them, even though he knew that the Church persecuted them. But he did not hear them speak errors of visible things nor any other of things they say, but he heard [...] of the things that heretics say: that God did not make visible things, that the holy host is not the body of Christ, that baptism and matrimony do nothing salvation, and that the dead do not rise. But the witness himself did not believe the foregoing errors. He started believing in the heretics 16 years ago, and stopped believing after he made his confession to brother Ferrier at Conques a year ago. He said as well that he did not tell the truth to the brothers Guilhem Arnald and Esteve, inquisitors, at Castelnaudary. He recognized as well that he did a wicked thing as after he abjured heresy and swore to persecute those heretics, he hid, believed, and adored heretics. He abjured heresy and swore, etc. Witnesses: as stated before.

Item. Year and day as above. The sworn witness Guilhem de Saint-Nazare added to his confession which things follows, saying that he saw Bertrand Marti and his companion, heretics, in his own house at Saint-Martin-Lalande, and he saw there with them Pons Mir, Bernard Martin, Bernard Martin Pico, Pons Martin, Peire Amielh, and B. Faure. The witness himself adored the aforesaid heretics there, but he did not see the others adore. This was about 15 years ago.
